HTTS is an innovative technology currently undergoing a feasibility study. The idea is to take the heat out from the thermal power plant process during low power demand and to store it for use it during high demand periods. Direct energy conversion should help improve energy efficiency and also improve the flexibility of CCS and nuclear power plants. The main challenges are to find suitable and cheap materials for heat energy storage and to find a way to transfer the heat in both directions – from and into the plant process.
